Virtual Racing

The RTYC are re-introducing Virtual Racing for our members through the November Lock-down. Olympic Coach Hugh Styles will once again be coach and compère on Sunday evenings and World Champion Team Racer and Club member Andy Cornah will organise quick fire racing on Wednesdays.  

The prizes are eye wateringly exciting

You are invited to compete for the hotly contested November Virtual Trophy Series, to be held on Sundays from 19:30 on 15th, 22nd & 29th November. The Sunday Evening regatta series is limited to 38 entries and the entry fee is £15 for the series. There will be 4 or 5 races, with 1 discard, per evening, and up to 1 wild discard will apply per series if in the opinion of the organisers a competitor suffers internet failure.

1st Prize
An invitation for the winner plus partner to join the Invitational Cup team in Newport Rhode Island to spectate, join the team for a practice sail aboard the very exciting IC37, and also join the team for the glamorous social programme at the 2021 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup. If you have yet to visit NYYC’s Harbour Court this is a ‘must do’ opportunity.

2nd Prize
A free of charge day’s racing for the winner plus 3 or 4 friends on a J70 in Cowes Week 2021. To be taken on 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th August with an option to take further days within this period at half  of the standard charter fee. The Rear Commodore Sailing will invite you and your crew for cocktails on the terrace at the RORC apres racing. 

3rd Prize
A tour of the Club’s art collection, silver trophy collection and rare clocks by Club Curator Andrew Collins to be followed by dinner for the winner and a guest with the RCS in the Coffee Room.

Sundowners and Racing - On 11th, 18th and 25th plus last lock-down day Tuesday 1st December we will run Virtual Regattas from exoctic venues such as Cagliari and Sydney Harbour. Racing will begin at 19:30 and we will race 5 quick-fire races back to back per evening. The race details including flights, scoring/discards etc will be circulated to contestants on Wednesday 11th November. Entry fee £5 per evening and you can enter as many or as few evenings as you would like.

3rd Prize
A bottle of RTYC Mumm Champagne served by George on ice in the Millenium Bowl a valuable RTYC Sailing Trophy. You keep the Champagne.

After Racing there will be a zoom drinks party on all race nights and or further casual racing. Drinks will be real of your own choice and from your own drinks cupboard!
