Mum's Bucket Round 2

The standard of helms and crew varied from some of the Club’s top team racers to the less experienced or new members.  The whole essence of random pairs which requires the more experienced to help their probably less experienced team mate enabled both to learn from the experience.
The racing was fast and furious with 10 -15 minute races with two flights of 4 on the water at any one time.  So fast in fact that one crew were caught out with jib furled taking a rest not realising that their race had already begun!
The level of team racing was incredibly high with very close finishes and plenty of place changes.
After half a round robin (14 races) the CSO asked the competitors if they would like to stop assuming that the snow and the prospect of watching the rugby would determine the answer to which there was a resounding request to continue.
In the end two teams could not be separated each with 6 wins each: helmed by Henry Arnold and Sarah Allan.  In third place was Ian Cook followed by joint fourth of Tom Quigley and Ed Males.  Rear Commodore Sailing Richard Hill, with the Captain of Racing, Angus Prentice and Mike Probert sharing the helming came 6th followed by Rory Spriggs and John Dallimore.
Thanks go to the volunteers led by Linda Pennington as RO ably assisted by Jenny Woods and Michelle Brennan on the Committee boat and Bill Wyatt mark laying.  The event was self-umpired because the umpires had been lured away to a nice warm hotel to attend an umpiring conference.
As usual the J/80 proved their worth as excellent team racing boats with no breakages or stoppages and the level of chatter in the bar describing manoeuvres after the event showed a level of happy competitors having enjoyed another successful club event.
The final of the Mum’s Bucket is on Sunday 12th March.  There are a few wild card places available for those that did not qualify so if you are interested in joining in one of the Club’s most enjoyable team racing events either as helm or as crew do get in touch with the Sailing Office.
