Tuscany 2K Report

Brilliant racing in fantastic conditions was the order of the every day in Tuscany for the Cala Galera 2K event from the 5-7th September 2014. The Thames team for the event was Olly Dix, Charlie Lowe, Amelia Boadle, Jamie Foot, Greg Hall, Rob Gosling, Camilla Gosling, and Fiona Hampshire.
With the round robin of 10 teams complete the competition was tight with 4 teams including the Thames tied on 6 points in 2nd place with the Romans in 1st on 7 points. All teams having moments of glory, in what became very demanding conditions the umpires were sorely tested. In its third year 2K tactics have become much slicker, putting much pressure on the umpires to get it right, as race after race saw the final approach to the finish being key to winning.

Day 3 of simply brilliant conditions in the Italian paradise of Porto Ercole in Argentario saw the final stages of the 2K Cala Galera event. Surrounded by a fleet of spectator boats the short sharp and highly dynamic racing brought roars of support and hails of despair from the crowded decks as teams fought out their fast moving duels.
Filippo Molinari’s seasoned team from Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) having finished the round robin in fourth, were to show there prowess by defeating Rome in the final to clinch the overall victory.
The Thames team had a tough last day waiting all day to race in the last race of the day and the last race of the 'King of the Castle' to battler for 5th or 6th place. Unfortunately they faced the Serpentine team who were on a winning streak after 2 back to back race wins starting the 'King of the Castle' in 7th, and after a very close fight they just sneaked in front of the Thames on the last downwind after endless position changes.
The final results from a fantastic weekend were:
1  Yacht Club Costa Smeralda
2  Rome Racing Team (RCCTR)
3  Royal Cork Yacht Club
4  Magnum
5  Serpentine
6  Royal Thames Yacht Club
