Perfect conditions for the 2nd Mum's Bucket Qualifier

6 teams enjoyed a fantastic day of sailing on Queen Mary reservoir on Saturday 8th March. Flat water, sunshine, and blue skies with an average of 12 knots meant that the sailing conditions were absolutely perfect for team racing.

The Mum’s Bucket series is the only random pairs team racing event which the club runs, each team gets to race with as well as against every other team, this format means that all boats are always in close fought contention for winning the match, and the sailing is always close.

The race committee, ably headed up by joint PROs- Jenny Woods and Bill Wyatt, ran an efficient round robin of 12 races, followed by a mini league of 3 races, which meant that each team sailed 10 races... and were all in need of a well deserved pint at the end of the day.

Younger Member, Dave Miller, a very experienced sailor- but for whom team racing is a new challenge, demonstrated good boat speed throughout the event and a solid knowledge of the rules, which gave him a set of straight wins. William Edwards, with his crew of Alison Copeland and Henry Woods came in a close second place, and Angus Prentice and Guy Lawrence also qualified alongside Ben Clothier who secured his place in the final at the 1st Qualifier.

Many thanks to everyone who was involved with the event; sailors, race officials, umpires and Simon the bosun all worked hard throughout the day to ensure that fun was had by all.

The Mum’s Bucket Finals will be held on Sunday 30th March. The following helms have qualified:

Ben Clothier
Richard Hill
Olly Dix
Rob Gosling
Dave Miller
William Edwards
