London Boat Show puts up £1,000 Academy prize

National Boat Shows Limited, organisers of the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show, have put up £1,000 in prize money for our Academy in two days of Demonstration Match Racing at this year's Tullett Prebon London Boat Show.  Our International Umpires Bruce Hebbert and David Lees will lead the umpiring team including Bernard Kinchin, George Ehlers and Jack Edwards. John Burgoine, Principal Race Officer for the Olympic match racing in Weymouth and with whom we work closely in connection with the BUSA and RYA National Match Racing Championships sailied in our J/80s will lead a team of RTYC Race Officers and Royal Thames Academy and ex-Academy sailors will take part. They will include Nick Cherry, current RYA National Match Racing Champion; Andy Cornah, current ISAF Team Racing world champion and Mark D Lees, placed fifth in this year's RYA NMRC.

The racing will be in Shadow-class International 2.4m yachts - two-man miniature Twelves with spinnaker.

The racing will be held on the Watersports Actvity Pool in the Show where there is grandstand-style seating whence members can watch the racing and applaud the efforts of both our Academy sailors and our versatile team of race officials. 

Racing takes place in four sessions on each of the two days:

0900 - 1000 Practice.

1105 - 1125 Racing session 1

1350 - 1410 Racing session 2

1625 - 1645 Racing session 3.

Each session will consist of three races between the same pair of skippers. The winners of sessions 1 and 2 will race each other in session 3. The winner of session 3 will receive a keepsake trophy and, on behalf of our Academy, a cheque from National Boat Shows Limited for £500.
