Spring Excuse 2009

We gather on Friday in Lymington, enjoy supper at a new (for us) restaurant, then sail on Saturday to Poole.  On Saturday evening we join our friends at the Royal Motor YC for a black-tie dinner to mark St George’s Day. We’ve worked hard on the programme to keep costs down – both suppers are very reasonably priced – and to refresh two of our favourite destinations while staying with our proven format.

Come and join us.

HW Portsmouth on Friday 24th April will be at 1125: just right for coming west on the ebb in time for afternoon tea at Royal Lymington YC or just a glass or two with fellow members on each other’s boats.

Berths have been booked for us on the new(ish) Dan Bran pontoon just down river

 Dan Bran pontoon Lymington

from Royal Lymington – around £18 per night for a 35-footer, £34 for 55 – 60ft – to keep the fleet together and encourage conviviality.

Supper that evening will be in Lane’s, a very pleasant restaurant about half-way up the High Street with an eccentric lay-out and superb food. Peter Leyton-Hones, the chef and with his wife Nicola the proprietor, was formerly executive chef at the De Vere Royal Bath and before that was Head Chef at the Belfry. Look here http://www.lymington.com/laneslunch on the internet for a review of Lane’s.

Lymington High Street’s Saturday Market – one of the oldest established in the New Forest, with a charter dating back to the 12th century – will assuredly occupy at least some of the morning, but with HWP at 1213 on Saturday an early visit will be in order before leaving around 1100 to take the ebb out through Hurst and westward to Poole.

On Saturday evening we shall join our friends at the recently refurbished Royal Motor Yacht Club for their St George’s Night supper, dress code is Black Tie. Click here for the menu.  Tom Montgomery, our intrepid and tireless Man About Poole Harbour, has worked up a berthing plan at Salterns Marina to keep the Fleet together and reasonably contiguous to the evening action. Berthing will be at the discounted rate of £4 per metre.

Do not, however, indulge too deeply or too well on Saturday evening, for with HWP at just after 1300 on Sunday it will be an early start to get to Hurst before the ebb really sets in.
