Royal Thames defend Carmela Cup
2009 saw a new venue for the sailing of the Carmela Cup, the Queen Mary Sailing Club. This proved to be very popular with all the competitors.
Two days of light wind saw the Oxford and Cambridge Sailing Society lead after two round robins with 6 wins and the Royal Thames and West Kirby both on 5 points.
PRO Gill Smith and her team ran a elimination semi final between RTYC and WKSC which saw the RTYC win the right to sail against the OCSS for the right to defend the Carmela Cup.
Finally some wind appeared for a close final which saw the RTYC defend their hold on the Carmela Cup after a very close race with the Oxford and Cambridge Sailing Society.
Many thanks to all competitors, the Umpires, led by CHUMP, Peter Johnson, the race Management team, led by PRO Gill Smith, the RTYC CSO Malcolm McKeag and Queen Mary Sailing Club who all ensured that a great weekend was had by all.
