RTYC recapture the George Nichols Trophy
Fickle wind on Saturday morning saw PRO Gill Smith and ARO Richard Prest searching for ways to start racing, and while the wind did build enough in the afternoon to get the teams afloat, and to have two practice races it was decided that it was not consistent enough to run racing of the calibre required of the Commodore George Nichols Trophy.
Thanks to the way the schedule had been devised, coupled with a hasty re-jig of the social programme, four round –robins could be sailed in what turned in a glorious day on the dock, with a building and steady easterly breeze and warm, bright sunshine. To keep the event alive and give the opportunity for the visitors to acclimatise, a points accelerator was built-in to the scoring, with later races counting more value than early races. In the event, it was the RTYC team that improved as the vital high-scoring matches and while honours were even in the opening rounds success, and points, began to accumulate more readily to the team in the blue shirts, rather than the red.
The RTYC Team was:
Thomas Brennan (Captain of Racing)
Mark Lees (Team Captain)
John Dallimore
Gregor Logan
Gavin Prentice
William Burdell
David Royse
Jonathan Clark
Dave Huber
Ben Clothier
Doug Harckham
Jilly Allenby-Ryan
