Royal Thames Carmela Cup 2009

Royal Thames YC has for the past five years run the national championship of two-boat team racing in keelboats at Boat Show time in Royal Victoria Docks, London, using first the RYA First Class 8s which subsequently became the Berkeley Marine First Class 8s and with the co-operation of Hamish Stewart of Royal Docks Management Authority, Charlie Falconer and later his successor Kevin Ellis of the Newham RVD Sailing Centre and, most especially, Lt Kevin Perkins, his staff and his boats at the Sea Cadets London Area Boat Station at RVD. Without the willing co-operation of these people it would simply not have possible to run the event, and to them we are most grateful.

This year there has been some uncertainty surrounding the future of sailing on RVD and, in particular, the BML fleet there and this circumstance has led us to make the decision to hold the 2009 Royal Thames Carmela Cup later in the year. No venue, and no date, has yet been settled upon but we are looking at probably sometime in April or early May, and possibly not at RVD.
