J/80 Open Club Fleet Racing Day — 07 November '10

.

"Our" J80s (jointly owned with RYS) have returned from their summer sojourn in Cowes to their winter quarters at Queen Mary Water.

We plan a full programme of activity to attract all members of all age groups and skill levels from those who fancy just a winter morning and early afternoon of fleet racing close to London to events for our Silver, Masters and Gold standard team and match racers. The full J80 Winter Programme can be seen here.

Our first weekend will be the 6th and 7th November when the Academy will start to hone their racing skills on the Saturday and we shall have the first of our open Club fleet race weekends on the Sunday. THERE IS NO CHARGE TO CLUB MEMBERS for this day - so do come along and, especially if you have yet to sail them, try out the boats and Queen Mary Sailing Club's excellent winter sailing venue, warm and comfortable clubhouse, hot food, delicious warming soup and - provided you have someone else in the group who agrees to drive home afterwards - well-stocked bar.

We shall have a second open fleet racing day on the 21st November.

So if you would like to take part email racing@royalthames.com, contact  the Sailing Secretary. or simply click on the Attend This Event box at the top of the page.

It would be great if you can find three other members to form a crew to take part - alternatively, you can put your name forward and you will be allocated to a boat that is short of crew. Either way, this promises to be great  sailing so please do get involved.

The standard sailing instructions for our J/80s are here.

PLEASE NOTE the mandatory requirement at Queen Mary to wear personal buoyancy when afloat. There is a supply of buoyancy aids available for loan - but it is better to bring your own.  Note also the requirement that if you fall in the water for any reason, you will not be allowed afloat again until you are wearing fry clothes - so at least one dry change is advisable.
