About RTYC
The Royal Thames Yacht Club is the oldest continuously operating yacht club club in the United Kingdom. Our members participate in a wide range of sailing events in home waters and worldwide. At the same time our unique London Clubhouse provides a focal point for the yachting world.
The Knightsbridge Clubhouse is a haven for those who want a relaxing and exclusive land base in London. There are two bars, reading and meeting rooms, an excellent restaurant - still called the 'Coffee Room' - and cabins for those staying in the centre of the city, but with the rural aspect of Hyde Park. There are also excellent shops nearby, such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
A friendly welcome, fine food and comfortable accommodation are guaranteed. The Club has a distinguished cellar and a long tradition of serving superb wines at reasonable cost. Social events range from charity balls to dinners with leading speakers, and from golf days to trips with members to hard-to-access locations.
The Clubhouse is also available for a wide variety of business and social functions. These may be on a large scale or small, ranging from private meetings to class association gatherings, from business seminars to family weddings.
Other Advantages for Members
The Club has significant team and match racing programmes and also organises cruising for members and their guests in selected locations around the world. In every case the experience of members - often living locally - contributes to making a Royal Thames yachting event a very special occasion, usually with unique access to local facilities. More details are on the yachting pages of this website.
The Club also has a number of moorings on the Solent both at Hamble and Cowes. These are available to members at attractive rates.
There are close ties with a selected group of five other great yacht clubs where members of the Royal Thames enjoy full reciprocal rights. As a result, it is possible for them to stay, for example, at the New York Yacht Club in the USA or at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in Australia.
There are standard reciprocal arrangements with about sixty other leading yacht clubs around the world and twenty five in the UK. Members of the Royal Thames can be confident of a welcome wherever they travel.
